Commitment: Monthly committee meetings; Ongoing engagement between meetings to support organizational initiatives; Periodic increased involvement during conferences, workshops, or major organizational initiatives; Approximate time commitment: 2-5 hours monthly

About the Committee
The Organization Committee serves as the governance and leadership committee of the Florida Downtown Association (FLDA). The committee is responsible for guiding the organizational structure, policies, and long-term sustainability of the association. Composed primarily of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, the Organization Committee provides oversight of governance practices and helps ensure FLDA operates in a clear, consistent, and effective manner. The committee drafts organizational policies and reviews policies developed by other committees prior to submission to the full Board of Directors for consideration and approval. In addition to governance responsibilities, the Organization Committee supports the overall health and sustainability of FLDA through friendraising and fundraising efforts. This includes strengthening relationships with partners, supporting stewardship efforts, and helping position the organization for long-term growth. The Organization Committee meets monthly and plays an active role in shaping the direction, structure, and leadership of FLDA.
About the Role
Organization Committee Members support the Florida Downtown Association (FLDA) by providing governance oversight, policy development, and leadership guidance for the organization. Members play a key role in ensuring FLDA’s policies, committee structure, and operational framework remain aligned with the organization’s mission, bylaws, and strategic direction. The committee also supports organizational sustainability through relationship-building and fundraising strategy discussions. This role is well suited for individuals who are thoughtful, collaborative, and committed to the long-term success of the association.
EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Participate in monthly committee meetings and actively engage in discussion.
Draft organizational policies for FLDA, including governance and operational policies.
Review and provide feedback on policies developed by other committees prior to board consideration.
Ensure proposed policies align with FLDA’s bylaws, mission, and strategic priorities.
Recommend policies and governance actions to the full Board of Directors for approval.
Support board development, leadership continuity, and organizational structure as needed.
Participate in friendraising efforts by helping strengthen relationships with members, partners, and supporters.
Support fundraising strategy discussions and stewardship efforts to promote long-term organizational sustainability.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when discussing governance matters.
Who Should Apply?
The Organization Committee is primarily comprised of officers of the Board of Directors. Participation may be opened to additional individuals as determined by board leadership, particularly those with experience in governance, nonprofit leadership, or organizational development.
