Board of Directors – Volunteer Position
Florida Downtown Association, Inc.
Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per month
Meetings: Monthly virtual Board Meeting – 4th Monday at 1:30 p.m. (one in-person meeting annually)
Term Length: 3-year Board term; 2-year Officer term
About the Role
The Board of Directors is a volunteer leadership body responsible for guiding the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the Florida Downtown Association, Inc. Board members collectively assume legal, fiscal, and policy oversight for the organization and serve as ambassadors for economic revitalization and historic preservation throughout Florida’s downtowns and business districts. This is an uncompensated volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities
Provide organizational leadership and ensure alignment with the Association’s mission, vision, and annual goals.
Participate in policy development, fiscal oversight, and long-range planning.
Serve as an advocate for the Association at the local, state, and national levels.
Support fundraising efforts by helping to raise operating and programmatic funds.
Become familiar with the annual work plan and ensure Board decisions support its objectives.
Review and provide input on organizational plans, budgets, and annual strategic evaluations.
Expectations & Requirements
Attend monthly virtual Board Meetings, with at least one in-person meeting each year.
Attend annual planning sessions and program events as able.
Serve on at least one standing committee (Organization, Education, Advocacy, Communications, or other ad hoc groups) with a minimum 75% participation rate.
Volunteer at Association activities and contribute talents, time, and resources to advance the mission.
Fulfill financial obligations by maintaining membership dues at least at the individual level.
Make a good-faith commitment to support fundraising efforts that sustain the organization.
Time Commitment
Board members should expect to contribute approximately 5 hours per month, including meeting attendance, committee work, advocacy, and organizational support.
